FROM THE MOMENT I first kissed Elijah, I wanted him. My body craved his, and I would have taken him into my place if it wasn’t shared with my brother. For every day since then, I’ve desired him. My lust has grown with every chaste kiss we shared in front of my brother. With every stolen moment, we had when he was looking away.

Because I’m twenty-two, but my brother insisted we could only meet at our place when he was home. Protective much?

Elijah’s been patient. Way more patient than me. Whenever Noah goes into the kitchen, I would jump on his lap to kiss the hell out of him. He would stay respectful and sit me down with any sign of Noah’s approach.

But when I’d sit on his lap, I wouldn’t miss the hard length in his pants. I know he wants me too. He just respects my brother more than I do, apparently. But Noah’s his boss, so there’s a bonus complication.

We’ve been dating for a month like this — with my brother acting as the guardian. The most intimacy we’ve had to this point was the days Elijah had a day off, so he took me to college. That’s it. Ten minutes sharing a car with him, chatting with no worries about my brother, Elijah’s fingers curled around my knee.

It only makes tonight more special. I’m finally seeing the place he lives in.

Elijah watches me from his open-plan kitchen as I run my fingers down the spines of his books. He’s a Classics man, and I get that. We’ve been having fun these days figuring out why do we feel so connected to one another. Turns out we have loads of beliefs and opinions in common. We like the same things, and we have the same goals in life.

To keep people safe. To be the best professionals we can be.

It’s all so easy with him. I shouldn’t be surprised.

My fingers curl around a book and I pull it out of the shelf. The enormous volume is heavy in my small hands, but I flip through it, anyway.

“Which one is that?” He calls from the kitchen as he sautés our dinner.

“The Iliad,” I reply without taking my eyes from the worn pages. He’s read this one more than once.

Elijah laughs. “So many names. Homer will give you the entire history of a character just to kill him off a moment later.”

I snort, laughter crawling up my throat. “That he does. He tells you the man is honorable and married this girl he loved and has a sick father and bam! He’s dead.”

He shakes his head, his glittering eyes on me. “Never thought I’d fall in love with a girl who read The Iliad too.”

I shimmy my shoulders, putting the book back in place before I walk into the kitchen. I’m not quite a help here, just hugging him from behind as he cooks. Elijah doesn’t complain — in fact, he adores it, looking over his shoulder with a smile every two seconds.
